Brainstorm

Research and Possible directions

– Use the process to ask a question (exploring an open-ended question through diagrams).
– Exploring a topic/social issue (Friendship, Identity, discrimination, bullying, etc.) through diagrams.
– Translating written language into diagrams (random comments, famous poems, text from magazines/newspapers, etc.)
– Relationship between arrow/diagram as fact vs. interpretation.
– Focusing on the arrow as a technical element. How far can I go?
– Translating an image into many diagrams.

Possible Approaches
1. Using text/captions in my iterations (next to the diagrams) to create a more straightforward story
2. Not using supportive text, leaving the interpretation up to the viewer (endless stories)

Source (open-ended topic/question)

Random questions
– If You Had The World’s Attention For 30 Seconds, What Would You Say?
– What are you thinking now?
Translating the answers into diagrams

Randomly generated text
– Comments found in Social Media (an app, etc.)
Translating the comments into diagrams

Random thoughts
– Self-thoughts and concerns about life, reality and the world in general.
– Sense of humor.
– Simple things that can change the world.
– Diagrams over a newspaper, a piece of paper (about a topic).

Thoughts/concerns about life
Questions and thoughts generated by me and others (life-based). Through this short questionnaire, I wanted to see others peoples’ thoughts about life. Are their concerns relate to my concerns?

– Who am I? What am I?
– What am I doing? Where am I going?
What actually life is?
– Which is the purpose of life?
– What death looks like?
– What happens after everything ends?
– What is real?
– Totally lost
– If this is my last day on earth, does this make me happy or sad?
– Why I cannot become a great designer?
– Where do you go where there is nowhere to go?
– What does it really mean to be successful?
– Hedonic treadmill
– Where is this going?
– How work/life will be after the pandemic?
– Chaos
– Covid sucks! It has changed everything and affected my life a lot.
– Just because you live in a pretty prison does not mean that you are not a prisoner anymore.
– Everything has a balance (point of balance).
– Self-Gravity
– I am scared of my future career. Can’t make enough money to fulfill my ideal lifestyle.
– Quarantine
– Universe is already in the process to make all of my dreams real.
– Being humble and keeping a low profile makes you greater than what you think of yourself.
– I am in love, my boyfriend loves me very much, but I am still worried about being dumped.
– Choosing financial stability over a more creative job.

Which is the relationship between the diagram as fact vs interpretation?

Exploring the comparison between the actual elements of the diagram, the possible meanings and what visually looks like.

Project Constraints
– Black and white
– 1pt stroke weight
– Arrow, shapes and lines (or not?)
– No captions/text, leaving the interpretation up to the viewer (endless stories).

Experimenting with other media such as images, scanned documents, etc.
This is not giving something extra to my project so I will continue working as previously, focusing only on arrows, lines and shapes.

First (small) experiment – Developing my research based on others’ interpretations.
Each new iteration is based on the interpretation of the previous one.
